ORION Chocopie VS. LOTTE Chocopie

So I had the pleasure of snacking on a classic Asian snack, the Choco pie. The Choco pie originates from Korea and is very popular there. It has been very successful in many Asian countries and I was lucky to find the delicious sweet treat in a Japanese market here in Cali. The two leading brands of Choco pie are Orion and Lotte. Orion is the original Choco pie that was established in Korea, while Lotte Choco pie is a Japanese brand. Both are very delectably delicious, coated with sweet, sweet chocolate.
First, I gobbled down the Orion Choco pie. It had a sweet, delicate flavor that was not too overpowering. The marshmallow center was soft and chewy as well as the soft chocolate-coated cookies. The Orion Choco pie is not too sweet and definitely earns its name as the leading brand of Choco pie.
Next, I tasted the Lotte Choco pie. The chocolate was much thicker and the center was more of a soft cream. I have to say, the Lotte Choco pie had more flavor than the Orion Choco pie. The chocolate was sensational and I liked the creamy center better than the chewy marshmallow. Although, Lotte is only the second leading brand of choco pie, I did find it to have more sweetness to it.
Overall, both brands of Choco pie are definite classics. The Orion has taken the place as the original Choco pie and has gone through years of success with its delicate flavor. The Lotte Choco pie, recreating the original Choco pie, has a boost in flavor with luscious cream. Sooo, the Choco pie is a snack you surely don't want to miss out on trying. Give both brands a try, and have fun comparing and enjoying like I did. :)

  5. Oh my god, I'm in Japan for a few months and I have fallen in love with Lotte Choco Pie specifically (the chocolate cake one, in my case - chocolate cake + chocolate coating + cream filling as opposed to the 'vanilla' cake type). These things are gonna kill me, I mistakenly bought a 6-pack (6? 8?) instead of the 2-pack after a night of drinking so I have to be careful not to eat all of 'em!

  7. I'd been eating Lotte for years. Orion isn't very common here. At least not at my favourite grocery stores. I had read on some amazon reviews orion is much better than lotte. I used to love Lotte and I thought wow if orion is better than lotte even damn it must be so tasty.
Just a few days later I saw a 12-pack of orion choco pies and I bought em and now.. mehhhhhhhhhhhhh I hate em. You're right about thicker chocolate in lotte. There's nothing exciting about orion, it's just a choco pie that makes you think "ok.. I'm eating a regular choco thing. Nothing special about it".. but lotte, the thicker chocolate and softer cream make it super delicious and receives 10/10.

  8. Wiki states Lotte as the original place as Tokyo, Japan "by a Japanese businessman of Korean decent" but don't know how accurate it is.

Either way, it still tastes great no matter who created the choco pie first!

  9. Orion has more popularity in Korea. I love how more soft and moist the Orion is, as versus Lotte the pie crumbles when you take a bite. And I don't particularly like the creamy middle either. To me, it's not a "choco-pie," it's something else they tried to mimic. It's personal preference but I like Orion better because of its soft and moist texture and that's the only choco-pie i will eat.

  10. try smelling them. Orion has a more chocolate scent compared to Lotte's flatter smell.

  11. Lotte may have started in Japan but it was a Korean man who created it. It is a Korean company as 180,000 Korean employees vs 5,000
